Purple Sandpiper

You can always be guaranteed to see Purple Sandpipers along the east Pier at Dun Laoghaire in winter.

  1. Great photos! Purple Sandpiper are my Bogey birds. Despite numerous attempts in Howth and Dun Laoghaire, they've always eluded me! Where exactly on the East Pier do you see them. I presume it's the seaward side, but is it near the base of the pier (where the Black Redstart hangs out), or further up the pier?

  2. Hi Brian, they are normally further up the pier past the band stand along the flat rocks close to the edge. Hope you catch up with them soon, Regards, Murf
